(PLO)- Developing rooftop solar power for the purpose of self-use (not generating electricity on the grid) is one of the necessary solutions to remove difficulties in electricity supply in 2023 and the following years.

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has just sent a document to the Ministry of Industry and Trade proposing to soon issue guidelines for the development of rooftop solar power without generating electricity on the grid.

Previously, EVN had a number of documents to report to the Prime Minister on the ability to supply electricity nationwide and adjust the load in the period of 2023 - 2025, report to the Deputy Prime Minister on the situation of production and business activities. EVN's business and construction investment, report to the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the critical state of power supply.

In these documents, EVN has proposed to the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Industry and Trade solutions to ensure electricity supply, including the proposal to develop rooftop solar power sources in the North for self-use purposes to demand for on-site use (zero export) of electricity users.

EVN said that the above policy is in line with the Electricity Master Plan VIII (National electricity development plan for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050) which has just been approved by the Prime Minister.

Power planning VIII states: “Priority and breakthrough policies should be given to promote the development of solar power on the roofs of people and construction sites, especially in areas at risk of power shortages such as the North and the South. Self-produced, self-consumptive solar power. From now to 2030, the capacity of these power sources is estimated to increase by 2,600 MW. This type of power source is prioritized for unlimited capacity development, provided that it is reasonably priced and makes use of the existing power grid, without having to upgrade.

According to experts, the Northern provinces still have a lot of potential for solar power development, especially rooftop solar power, with the average daily radiation intensity of the year in the Northern region of about 4 kWh/m2/day, the number Sunshine hours in a year are about 1,500 - 1,700 hours. Meanwhile, the cost of solar power generation is also decreasing rapidly.

Rooftop solar power is a distributed and convenient source of electricity for on-site consumption. In addition to the roofs of households, the roofs of agencies, offices, schools, hospitals, restaurants, hotels, commercial centers, factories in industrial parks are also places can be installed.
